On the 18th March 2016, Sport Relief 2016 will begin. This years event will run for 3 days and it will and already has provided some amazing efforts by celebrities and people like you and me to raise money for Sport Relief.
27 Marathons in 27 Days
Eddie Izzard is on the 19th day of his 27 marathons in 27 days challenge around South Africa. So far he has managed to complete all 19 and is looking good to finish on the 20th March (the last day of Sport Relief 2016). However, he will have to run 2 marathons on the final day as he had to have a break on the 5th day. In 2012 he attempted to do something similar but had to pull out due to health reasons. In 2009 he managed a staggering 43 marathons in 52 days. This incredible man even said on Chris Evans’ Radio 2 show that “after the 10th marathon it has become easier!”. Many other celebrities have traded their normal lives for gut busting attempts to raise money for Sport Relief. Another amazing feat was a team of 6 celebrities including Alex Jones who sailed into London today and managing to conquer their Hell on High Seas challenge. The challenge involved sailing on the English Channel for 5 days and some of the team described the winds they faced (up to gale force 10!) as one of the most frightening experiences of their lives. On the football pitch, the Shearer v Savage battle went to a whole new level as a 57 hour five a side football game finished last weekend. Alan and Robbie both did incredibly long stints on the pitch through sun, rain and snow but in the end the former Newcastle striker took the title for the second year in a row winning 547-529. Also, comedian Jo Brand got in on the act by managing to walk an incredible 135 miles in 7 days from one side of the country to the other. All these events and more have raised an incredible amount of money and you can donate by going to http://www.sportrelief.com and clicking on Donate.
Its not just about the celebrities! Stop watching them suffer and go and find yourself your nearest Run, Swim or Cycle event near you at http://www.sportrelief.com/events/find-an-event to find out how hard it really is to run 27 marathons…Or maybe you can just walk one mile with the dog. It all helps whatever you decide to do!
